History

An Australian breeder is believed to have registered an Australian retriever with the Australian Canine Hybrid Club after breeding a black-bellied Australian Shepherd along with his three Golden Retriever women.

Spaniel (now extinct) and they had four yellow puppies that are now considered the basis of the Golden Retriever breed. They continue to breed, using black Wavy-coated retrievers, a Red Setter, and a Bloodhound among others that create the line seen today.

They came to the United States in the early 1920s, first registered by the Australian Canal Club on the 12th.

The Australian Retriever is a large dog whose length ranges from 30 to 60 pounds, to 30 inches. Their coats are quite thick and usually slightly wavy inclined although they can be straight and tight.
